Sorry for the second post of the same water lily, but I really can't decide which image I like better. I'm leaning towards this one. Any thoughts or comments?

Post No. 101 Coney Island and Nathan's

Coney Island, NY

I haven't been to Coney Island since I was a teenager. Until yesterday, that is. Actually, I don't even remember the last time I had a Nathan's Famous Frank (Hot Dog). Yesterday, I ate two; one plain (with ketchup & mustard), and the other with cheese (well, they call it cheese). I also had Nathan's fries and a Corona. I have to say that it was a fantastically delicious meal! There are Nathan's joints all around the greater NYC area, but you really can't beat the total experience of Nathan's Famous at Coney Island. I can't wait to get back for more!

Post No. 98 Full Moon Over the Hudson

Hudson River, Tappan Zee Bridge
Nyack, NY
I know that this photo has many technical flaws, however, I couldn't resist taking this photo. I looked out of my living room window last night, and this is what I saw. The luminosity of the moon, the clear sky, the reflection of the moonlight on the hudson river, and the lights of the Tappan Zee Bridge made the scene so breathtaking in person. I just had to shoot it! My tripod was in my car, several blocks away, and I was being lazy. I stepped out to the fire escape and snapped this handheld. I tried to keep the camera as steady as possible, but this was the best I could do.

Post No. 97 Boo Teachers? LOL

The annual TZE teachers and staff vs. the third graders...all 260 of them! The kids were divided into groups of between 5 and 7 and each group was given at least 1 4 minute quarter of play in the game. The end result after 27 quarters... a tie - 134-134... Gotta love it!

Post No. 78 Dried Up

Post No. 77 Eastman House- Rochester, NY

Former home of the Founder of the Eastman Kodak Company At one point in it's history, Kodak was the largest employer in the city of Rochester. However, through the 1980's up to the present day, that role has diminished substantially. Kodak's bread and butter was photographic film, paper, and chemical products. The rise of the digital age translated to a subsequent decreased demand for the products produced by Kodak, and the exacerbated rate of decrease in company's decreased impact on the economy in Rochester. No longer can a local high school graduate follow in the footsteps of his mother and/or father and secure a blue collar job, with a decent wage, which provides means to live a modest middle class lifestyle. For the most part, those positions have been either eliminated entirely, or moved overseas. Peace, ~sjf

This is a photo of a famous neighborhood diner in my hometown of Rochester, NY. I've always wanted to photograph this diner, but unfortunately, I didn't have my tripod with me. This was shot handheld, in manual, at 400 iso, at f1.8 (I believe- can't remember exactly). I will photograph this diner at iso 200 and f8.0 when I have my tripod. I'm sure it will come out better. Any thoughts on this one? ~ peace sjf

Post No. 69 Pouring Salt on My Wounds

So, I get to work Friday morning, bright and early, ready to tackle the day and put my Duke Blue Devils' NCAA loss to Villanova behind me. What do I find on my desk, but this dig by my friend and colleague Jim... (So many Duke Haters out there... They don't get the beauty of their style of play, characterized by intensity, selflessness, determination, skill, sacrifice, and mindfulness...) I burst out laughing when I saw this! It still makes me smile when I look at it, because it was quite clever. HOWEVER, it's on now! For Sure! Wait til your Boston Red Sox go down, my friend... Just you wait... ;)

Post No. 66 Light

Look up, I look up at night, Planets are moving at the speed of light. Climb up, up in the trees, every chance that you get,is a chance you seize. How long am I gonna stand, with my head stuck under the sand? I'll start before I can stop, before I see things the right way up. All that noise, and all that sound, All those places I got found. And birds go flying at the speed of sound, to show you how it all began. Birds came flying from the underground, if you could see it then you'd understand? ~ Coldplay (Speed of Sound)

Post No. 65 Daily Grind...

The world is a vampire, sent to drain Secret destroyers, hold you up to the flames And what do I get, for my pain? Betrayed desires, and a piece of the game Even though I know - I suppose I'll show All my cool and cold - like old job Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage Then someone will say what is lost can never be saved Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage Now I'm naked, nothing but an animal But can you fake it, for just one more show? And what do you want? I want to change And what have you got, when you feel the same? ~ Smashing Pumpkins (Rat in a Cage)

Post No. 63 Glass House

Once again, I'm in trouble with my only friend
She is papering the window panes
She is putting on a smile
Living in a glass house
Once again, packed like frozen food and battery hens
Think of all the starving millions
Don't talk politics and don't throw stones
Your royal highnesses
Well of course I'd like to sit around and chat
Well of course I'd like to stay and chew the fat
Well of course I'd like to sit around and chat
But someone's listening in...

Post No. 49 NYC Emergency Response to Flight 1549

I was driving into the city on the westside highway on Thursday when I first heard of the Flight 1549 plane, which crashed into the hudson river. By the time I reached 96th street, the traffic was completely stopped, and what seemed like a hundred emergency responders were blaring their sirens and screaming over their loudspeakers for drivers to get their cars out of the way immediately! As always, I keep my camera within arms reach, so it was a no braner for me to start shooting. This photo was taken near 56th street, where all traffic was being diverted to the east. As you see, there is a stream of emergency vehicles continuing to make way through traffice. There were probabaly 30 police and fire vehicles in this group! I have to say that it was the most incredible emergency response I have ever seen in person. I've never seen so many police, fire, medic vehicles, and other unmarked vehicles respond to any single event as this. It was most certainly warranted and as we all know, the result was over 150 lives saved! The heroism began with the pilot, Chelsey B. Sullenberger III, but continued with the flight crew and passengers, ferryboat operators and passengers, and emergency responders. When I reflect on the tremendous beauty of the collective effort put into saving the lives of those on Flight 1549, I can't help but become overwhelmed with emotion. Hats off to all of those involved! Bravo
